Advanced Placement (AP) courses and exams help high school students earn college credit before they leave high school. Today there are ten different STEM related AP programs: Biology, Calculus AB and CD, Chemistry, Computer Science A, Environmental Science, Physics B, Physics C – Electricity and Magnetism, Physics C – Mechanics, and Statistics. Design Engineering could be the next STEM-focused AP program as the College Board and advocates for engineering education are actively exploring the creation of a portfolio assessment approach for Design Engineering akin to the AP Studio Art program.
