Using National Science Foundation data, Donna Milgram of the Institute of Women in Trades, Technology and Science, has figured out that in order for women to pursue careers in STEM, “they need personal encouragement from instructors or counselors.” Through the CalWomen Tech Project, Milgram heads an initiative to educate community colleges around the U.S. with workshops, webinars, and online learning communities to improve recruitment and retention of women in STEM education programs.
